The Joplin Museum Complex holds two very different, yet very fascinating, museums related to the history of the tri-state region: the Everett J. Ritchie Tri-State Mineral Museum and the Dorothea B. Hoover Historical Museum. Exhibits in the former include a collection of lead and zinc ores as well as the processes of the mining industry that once thrived in and around Joplin. While the mineral museum explores the process of mining, the historical museum looks into the history of mining in the area as well as other significant historical periods and events in Joplin. Situated in Schifferdecker Park, the museums are close to family activity areas including a swimming pool, athletic courts and the Schifferdecker Golf Course.
